I am delighted to welcome you to EtonHouse Malaysia (EHM). I hope to convey the passion and enthusiasm which both staff and students bring to all that they do here, making EHM such a wonderful place to learn.
EHM is renowned for the outstanding holistic education that we provide. We have a strong focus on student-centred and inquiry-based learning. Our school is fully accredited as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach throughout the early years and primary school. Students work with the environment where they are stretched and challenged to achieve their goals. I am very proud of the exceptional teaching staff we have working across the school, engaging students in multiple approaches to learning to meet the needs of all students.
Over the Summer of 2018, we have extended the school library, adding a new foreign language section, celebrating the diverse needs of our students. We have extended our beautiful landscaped gardens, constructing our new football pitch and multi-purpose court for volleyball, basketball and badminton.
At EHM, students have an intricate combination of both strengths and areas for improvement. Understanding these elements is the key to discovering and fulfilling their potential. At EHM, students are encouraged to participate in an extensive array of opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. Our diverse staff is equipped to ensure that students are challenged and their individual needs are met. Students leave EHM accomplished with academic skills and life skills to prepare them for the journey ahead. This year particular attention will be paid to increasing sporting opportunities for the children.
This year we will also be introducing Visual Multilayer Thinking. By using a non-linear, visual approach to thinking and communication, the more creative aspects of the brain are unlocked. The extra activity engages the brain in ‘dual processing’: a state of “busyness” that stops one from being over analytical and, ironically, helps those who are easily distracted to focus. This approach provides a way for people to move beyond the limitations that they imposed on themselves, or have had imposed on them, “getting out of their own way” to open new doors in thinking and creating.
EHM is a challenging and yet exhilarating place to learn. I am excited for the year ahead and hope you will help me in taking this school onto the next level and into the new educational paradigm.
